Yesterday was a momentous day in our family, my oldest son, Jayden finally spent seven straight nights in his own bed! This has taken six months, but he has done it ladies and gentlemen!
So in accordance with an agreement that was made way back in June, Jayden received a new pet. A black bear hamster to be exact. It's a girl and her name is...Beary. She really is a cute little thing.
Well, we got all the stuff for it. A little wire cage, a ball for her to tour the house in style, food water...EVERYTHING. Jayden took her everywhere he could yesterday, showing her off to my parents, his cousins...everyone.
Well, bedtime came and we set Beary's cage up right beside Jayden's bed. We all said goodnight and that was the end.
Well, this morning I get up and start getting the boys school clothes together. I decide to check in on Beary and she's GONE! I was like "Rose!"
She says, "What did she die?"
I said, "No, she's G-O-N-E."
Rosemary says, "Done?"
I said "G!!!!"
She says "g? G? Gone? Oh God, where did she go???"
Well, this is the exact moment that Jayden decides to sit up because he realizes that we're talking about his hamster. He's like "Where did she go?"
Well of course he begins to cry, sobbing so hard that you can barely understand him. We have three dogs and one cat, so I was pretty sure that Beary was now breakfast for one of them. I assured him that I would continue searching and that Beary would be safe and sound in her cage when he got home from school. (Mainly because mommy was going to shell out some more money for another one.)
Well, Jayden and I get ready to leave this morning and we are walking about the back door, through the laundry room, to get in the car. All of a sudden, a movement and a scratchy sound catch my ears and eyes. It's coming from behind my washing machine.
So I climb up onto it, kneeling down on all fours between a shelf and the top of the washer and dryer. I see our cat, Sprinkles lurking around back there. Then I spot a small fury black shadow! It's Beary, about to be a yummy morsel for our cat.
I yell very loud, "She here!" at which point Jayden goes behind the washer and saves her life. He was so happy, he took her to school with him.
I am so glad that he found that hamster. I hate to see him so upset!
